Looking for african inspired wedding decor with colorful runners, pretty backdrops or meaningful details? These ideas range from orange patterned chair bows to pale flowers and gold-colored accents.
Some offer general color and decor inspiration rather than identifiable African cultural designs.
You can keep it simple or go all out. Choose the colors you love, then build around pieces that feel right for your celebration.
For cultural objects and patterns, check their origins and meaning with the maker rather than treating them as interchangeable.
Wedding decor ideas worth saving
colorful runners and gold accents
We’re starting off strong with these pretty white tables and colorful geometric runners. I love the gold-colored chargers and the white flowers sitting above them.
Try patterned napkins at some place settings and deep burgundy ones at others, just like this setup. You don’t have to match every napkin to bring the colors together.
a layered basket backdrop
How gorgeous is this backdrop? The large circular baskets overlap in the middle, with smaller ones filling the spaces around them.
White flowers and trailing greenery sit along the bottom.
For your own version, leave space on either side of the upper baskets for your names. The simple dark lettering here is such a pretty finishing touch.
rust napkins and white patterns
If you are looking for a small detail to start with, this one is for you. The rust-colored napkin has white dots, lines and triangles across the front.
Gold-tone cutlery tucks into the fold above stacked speckled plates.
I’d keep the plates pale if you want to try this same combination.
pink proteas and succulents
I am obsessed with these pale pink proteas. The big flower heads look so pretty next to the small gray-green and peach-colored succulents.
The flowers sit in low rectangular containers, with greenery filling the gaps. Save this one if you’d rather have arrangements running along the table than towering above it.
a bright orange chair bow
How cute is this oversized bow? The orange pattern includes little green, blue and burgundy details, all against a plain white chair cover.
Try this if you want to bring color to your seating without adding flowers to every chair.

rust flowers and amber candleholders
This centerpiece may just be one of my favorites here. I love the rust and cream flowers mixed with those tall pale plumes.
The amber-colored candleholders look lovely around the base.
Don’t forget the little stem bundles on the napkins if you’re borrowing this look. They repeat a detail from the centerpiece without being another big arrangement.
tall figures and potted cacti
Want an idea for a display corner rather than another table arrangement? This photo pairs three tall sculptural figures with upright cacti in rounded brown pots.
There’s no visible wedding setup here, but the grouping offers inspiration for an entrance display. Before choosing similar figures, ask the maker about their origin and whether they’re appropriate for your celebration.
baskets and rust-colored plumes
If you are looking for a ceremony backdrop with lots of detail, then this one is for you. Rust, cream and brown plumes frame an open view, with round baskets across the top and down the sides.

I especially love the fan-shaped leaves tucked between the plumes. Keep the middle open if you want your surroundings to show through too.
a colorful circular accent
The red and golden-yellow rings are so pretty on this round decorative piece. Tiny bead-like rows run out from the brown center to a pale outer band and dark braided edge.

For a wedding display, you might stand a similar piece behind a smaller arrangement so the colored rings stay visible.
a tower of terracotta-colored pots
Now this is a way to go all out! Rounded pots sit at different angles in a tall tiered display, with burgundy flowers and greenery gathered at the bottom.
I love the mix of plain surfaces, narrow ridges and geometric patterns. Ask your decorator about a securely supported version rather than trying to balance loose pots yourself.
a patterned sweetheart table
I am obsessed with this sweetheart table. The brown, black and yellow print appears behind the chairs and sweeps across the white table front in a big gathered drape.

The pale flowers and feathery stems are gorgeous beside it. If you want to follow this setup, keep the rounded chair backs visible above your centerpiece.
knotted sashes with long tails
This is another colorful chair idea, but it’s a little different from the bow above. A patterned sash wraps around the chair back with long ends hanging from the knot.

I love the narrow golden-orange ribbon running down over the pattern. It’s a lovely detail to borrow if you don’t want a big bow.
a black-and-white shield display
This display keeps the colors simple with a black-and-white shield, brown lacing and crossed pieces behind it. The oval shape stands on a narrow support against a plain background.
The image doesn’t establish its cultural origin or a wedding use. If a similar piece has a place in your celebration, confirm its meaning and appropriate display with a knowledgeable maker or cultural adviser.
patterned bowls and colorful beads
There’s so much detail in these bowls! Pale geometric borders surround dark animal silhouettes, with colorful beaded pieces gathered in the top bowl.
For your own wedding styling, a single decorative bowl could hold keepsakes at a welcome table. I’d leave some space around it so those little patterns don’t get hidden.
gold-colored teardrop lanterns
Bring a little shine to your entrance with a grouping like this. I am in love with the tall pointed shapes and the tiny cutout patterns.
Smaller lanterns sit in front of the larger ones, with long green leaves rising between them.
patterned bottles and a matching runner
Don’t want big floral centerpieces? No problem!
This long table uses colorful covered bottles between clear cylinders, with a patterned runner stretching over the edge.
The orange, green and blue details look so good against white. Try pulling one color from your runner for the napkins, like the dark blue ones here.
peacock chairs and crossed drapes
How pretty are these rounded peacock chairs? I love the looping details inside the backs.
Brown drapes cross over white panels behind them, with a round sign hanging above.
For a photo corner, you could borrow the chairs and backdrop while setting bouquets and gifts on a separate table. That would leave the seats ready for you.
purple napkins and peach flowers
The purple and peach pairing is gorgeous in this tablescape. Bright purple napkins sit over pale plates and dark chargers, while peach, orange and deep burgundy flowers fill the center.
This is color inspiration rather than a clearly identifiable cultural design. You could bring this palette into your own celebration alongside patterns or pieces you’ve chosen for their meaning.
a broom with white flowers
I love the white flowers and bow on this decorated broom. Little pearl-like branches trail down the brown bristles, with pale bands spaced along the handle.
If a broom is part of your wedding ceremony, this gives you a pretty decoration idea. Keep the flowers near the handle if you want to leave most of the bristles visible.
sculptural figures and pale plumes
Last but definitely not least, we have this table with dark sculptural figures and tall pale plumes. The clear vases have cord wrapped around their necks, with a small white candle beside the front arrangement.
I love the simple brown and cream palette. If you’re considering similar figures, choose pieces with known origins and confirm that their use as table decor is appropriate.
