Looking for casual modest outfits that give you more options than jeans and a plain top? Long skirts, oversized sweatshirts and button-front layers give you plenty to work with.
There are some pretty color combinations here too, from pale blue and gingham to burgundy and cream.
You can keep things simple or try a few extra layers. Pick the sleeve lengths, necklines and fits that suit your own coverage preferences, then borrow a little inspo from these looks.
Everyday outfit ideas worth saving

How cute is this cream button-front top with the long blue skirt? I love the little dark buttons and the black belt at the waist.

Pair yours with a brown belt and shoulder bag like these. The pointed brown shoes are a lovely finishing touch.
pale blue and gingham
I am obsessed with this pale blue sweatshirt and black-and-white gingham skirt. It’s such a cute way to wear a longer skirt without making the outfit look dressy.
The white socks and gray sneakers are worth keeping too.
flared white top and taupe pants
If you are looking for a simple neutral combination, this one is for you. The white top has wide sleeves and a flared hem over loose taupe pants.
I especially love the long pendant necklace. For more coverage at the V-neck, you could add a higher-neck white layer underneath.
fruit graphic and blue maxi
Who says you have to stick to neutrals? This oversized pale blue tee has a big yellow fruit graphic that looks so fun with the deeper blue skirt.
Try leaving your tee untucked like this. A small black bag and pale platform sandals finish the combination without adding another bright color.
black overalls and tan boots
Don’t want to spend time matching lots of colors? No problem!
Try black overalls over a black long-sleeve top. I love the large front pocket and those tan boots peeking out below the cropped legs.
open plaid shirt and blue skirt
This is a cute way to bring a plaid shirt into your skirt outfits. Wear it open over a pale crewneck top, then add a light-blue knee-length skirt.
The white slip-on shoes keep the look simple. Choose a longer skirt if that better suits your preferred coverage.
cream vest and black maxi
I love this cream vest over the loose white tee. The long black skirt and gray sneakers make the whole combination feel casual rather than dressed up.

I love the green sneakers with yellow stripes. The little blue-and-green bag is such a fun addition!
olive dress and checked bag
Don’t want to put together lots of separate pieces? This long olive dress is a pretty place to start.
The short sleeves and gathered waist keep the design simple.
Pair yours with tan sandals and a small checked bag like this one. That little pattern is enough on its own.
leopard scarf and long cardigan
The leopard-print headscarf looks so pretty with these otherwise simple pieces. A long pale cardigan sits over a black top and blue jeans, with a black belt at the waist.
Keep the gold-tone buckle if you want a small extra detail. There’s no need to add another print.
charcoal sweatshirt and gray pants
Looking for something especially pared back? Try an oversized charcoal sweatshirt with loose gray pants and gray sneakers.
I love that the shades are different rather than perfectly matched.
tiered blue dress and white sleeves
This is such a pretty way to layer a short-sleeve dress. The white sleeves show underneath the blue button-front dress, with white pointed shoes repeating the color below.
I especially love the gathered tiers and matching blue belt. Keep those details if you’re trying a similar look.
striped cuffs and olive pants
The striped shirt peeking out here is my favorite part. Its cuffs and hem show beneath an oversized black sweater, paired with loose olive pants.
Let your shirt hang below the sweater instead of tucking it away. The brown square-toe shoes look lovely with these colors.
cream stripes and burgundy skirt
I am obsessed with this cream-and-black striped sweater over the burgundy skirt. The high neckline and little side openings at the sweater hem are such nice details.
White sneakers keep it casual. Try a pale shoulder bag like the one here if you want to bring the cream color into your accessories.
blue jacket and long black dress
If you are looking for something simple to put together, this one is for you. An oversized blue jacket goes over a long black ribbed dress, with white high-top sneakers below.
I love the small curved shoulder bag beside those bigger jacket sleeves.
puffer vest and dark maxi skirt
Want another way to wear a long skirt with oversized layers? Try this black puffer vest over a gray sweatshirt.
The dark blue skirt has a visible center seam and a wide hem.

The white-and-gray sneakers finish the look without making it fussy. This is a lovely one to save if you prefer dark colors and very few accessories.
