Looking for church wedding photo ideas that include more than a portrait at the altar? Think a long veil down the aisle, a quiet seat together or a kiss outside the doors.
These photos give you plenty to save, with one outdoor wedding-party idea included too.
You can keep your portraits simple or try something a little playful. Share your favorites with your photographer, then check which locations and ceremony shots your church allows.
Wedding photos to save for your church ceremony
a veil down the aisle
We’re starting off strong with this gorgeous view from above. I love how the floral-edged veil stretches down the aisle behind the couple.
The empty rows of pews make that little embrace feel even sweeter.
Ask your photographer whether an approved balcony spot could give you a similar angle.
kneeling side by side
This is such a lovely ceremony detail. The couple kneels facing the altar with a beaded wedding cord draped around their shoulders and a cross hanging between them.
If this tradition is part of your ceremony, a photo from behind can include both the cord and your veil.
a kiss by the window
I am obsessed with the light above this pointed window. The couple stands close beneath it, with the pews stretching toward them on either side.
If you love a quieter portrait, save this one. You don't need to look at the camera for every photo.
waiting at the altar
Don’t forget the view at the other end of the aisle! Here, the groom is in focus while the bride’s veil fills the foreground.
I love that you can see his expression with the tall candles behind him.
stepping out together
How sweet is this exit? The couple walks hand in hand through the open doors while people beside them clap.
The bride looking over at the groom is my favorite part.
Keep walking naturally for your own exit photos rather than stopping to face the camera on every step.
blue bows and a trailing veil
This seated portrait may just be one of my favorites here. I love the pale blue bow on the pew and the veil draped across the seats behind the bride.

Try sitting turned toward each other with your bouquet in your lap. Leave room in the picture for those beautiful windows too.
hands during the ceremony
The little moments deserve a place in your album too. This close view includes the couple’s hands, their lowered faces and the priest standing between them.
Ask about a similar ceremony photo taken from an allowed position, without interrupting the service.
a train across the steps
If you are looking for a simple portrait with your whole outfit in view, this one is for you. The couple stands beneath the rounded doorway with the bride’s train spread down the steps.

I especially love the white bouquet against the dark suit. Face the camera together for this classic shot.
walking in arm in arm
How lovely are these smiles? The bride walks arm in arm with her escort, carrying a large white-and-green bouquet.
Guests and stained-glass windows are still visible behind them.
Save this angle for your entrance with whoever you choose to walk beside you.
an embrace in the doorway
I am in love with this long veil. Its floral border spreads across the dark floor while the couple embraces in the bright doorway.
If you want a photo that shows the whole veil, ask for a view from inside looking out. A black-and-white version is worth considering too.
a head on your shoulder
Don’t want every portrait to feel formal? No problem!
This bride rests her head on the groom’s shoulder while he looks up toward the church interior. The tall stained-glass windows are gorgeous above them.
a portrait behind the candles
This bridal portrait is so pretty. The veil frames the bride’s face while glowing candles fill the front of the picture.
For a similar idea, ask your photographer about using an existing candle stand as foreground detail. Keep your veil and dress safely away from the flames.

a kiss among your guests
If you want your guests in the picture without lining everyone up, save this one. The couple kisses on the steps with people gathered around them beneath the tall arches.

I love the pale blue dresses and bouquets along the steps. There’s so much of the celebration in this single photo.
a quiet prayer
This is another beautiful way to photograph a kneeling moment. The side view shows the couple’s clasped hands and bowed heads, with the bride’s train trailing behind her.

It’s a lovely reference if you’d like your ceremony photos to include quiet moments as well as the big smiles.
the little green door
How cute is this church entrance? I love the deep green door inside that pointed white surround.
The couple holds hands while looking in different directions.
Try this if you want a full-length portrait without both of you looking straight into the lens.
a stained-glass silhouette
If you’re looking for a bridal portrait that’s a little different, go with a side-profile silhouette. The bride’s outline sits against a narrow window with blue panes and a red circular detail near the top. I’d keep this one in color.
laughing at the signing table
This is one of my favorite happy moments on the list. The groom signs the open book while the bride laughs beside him. Her laugh makes the picture!
Ask your photographer to keep capturing the smiles around the signing, not just the pen on the page.
a doorway full of bubbles
I am obsessed with this bubble-filled exit. The couple kisses outside the doors while the bride holds up a pink bouquet and bubbles float all through the picture.
If your church permits bubbles, this is a fun idea to discuss for your send-off.
an arm-in-arm outdoor walk
Want a wedding-party photo away from the doorway? These three walk across the grass with their arms around each other, carrying bouquets.
There isn’t a church visible in this image, so save it as a separate outdoor portrait idea rather than a church-specific shot. I love the view from behind.
sunglasses by the wedding car
Last but definitely not least, we have this playful car portrait. Both wear sunglasses while the bride leans on the hood beside her bouquet.
The groom stands on the other side with a hand in his pocket.
