20 San Diego Wedding Ideas With Coastal Views and Pretty Details

Looking for san diego wedding inspiration with more than just a beach backdrop? Think blue table runners, colorful bouquets and dinner beneath strings of lights.

These pictures give you plenty to save, from ocean portraits to little details for your reception.

You can keep things simple or go all out with flowers. Start with the setting you love, then pick a few details to carry through your day. There’s also a courthouse look from Austin included for outfit inspiration, not as a local venue.

Wedding ideas worth saving

ocean views and a rocky arch

We’re starting off strong with this dramatic ocean portrait. The couple sits above a huge opening in the rock, with the white dress trailing beside them.

I love how much of the coastline fills the picture.

Save the wide framing as inspiration rather than copying the ledge pose. Ask your photographer about a permitted spot safely back from cliff edges.

a sunlit archway

How pretty is this archway? The couple stands beneath the rounded opening with their foreheads touching.

That yellow and orange bouquet is such a lovely detail against the pale walls.

If your venue has an arch like this, ask for a full-length portrait that includes the whole opening.

a look back by the ocean

This coastal portrait may just be one of my favorites here. I love the bride’s glance back at the camera and the white train spread across the grass.

Try a hand-in-hand pose with your backs partly turned so your photographer can capture the back of your dress too.

blue runners and white draping

I am obsessed with this beach table. The dusty blue runner and matching napkins look so pretty beneath all that white draping.

White flowers and loose greenery run down the middle.

Keep the blue at each place setting if you want to follow this look. You don’t need to add another bright color.

greenery spilling over the table

Don’t want to use blue in your reception decor? No problem!

This pale blush table covering looks gorgeous with white flowers and dark brown chairs.

The greenery hanging all the way to the ground is my favorite part. Ask your florist about adding that detail at the ends of your tables.

a wide coastal embrace

This is another ocean portrait, but it’s a little different from the first. The couple is small in the frame, with rippling water behind them and a tall rock face below.

I’d save this for the distant framing and quiet embrace, not the cliff-edge position.

flowers on patterned steps

How cute is this little detail photo? A white and pale blue bouquet sits beside pointed white shoes on the steps.

The colorful patterns across the stair fronts are just as pretty.

Give your photographer a chance to include your venue’s details in the accessory photos. A staircase like this needs very little added decoration.

a close-up by the water

You don’t have to show the whole view in every photo. I love this close-up with the couple touching foreheads and the water softly visible behind them.

The low back, little buttons and white boutonniere give you plenty of lovely details without a bouquet in the frame.

a rooftop city portrait

If you want something other than an ocean backdrop, this city portrait is for you. Tall buildings surround the couple beneath a pale pink sky.

The bride holds her bouquet down at her side while her partner wraps his arms around her. Save that pose for a permitted rooftop photo spot.

a barefoot beach run

How sweet is this? The couple runs across wet sand with their shoes off, while the bride’s skirt and veil lift behind her. I love the blur and golden light.

Ask for a few moving shots alongside your still portraits if you like this less posed look.

pastel flowers by the vines

The flower arrangements at the aisle entrance are so pretty here. Pale pink, blue and white blooms sit low beside rows of tan chairs, with vines covering the hillside behind them.

Try a simple ceremony frame with a small white drape if you want to leave most of that background visible.

courthouse steps and puffed sleeves

How pretty is this courthouse look? This photo is outside the Heman Marion Sweatt Travis County Courthouse in Austin, Texas, so it’s outfit inspiration rather than a San Diego venue.

I love the off-the-shoulder neckline and those puffed sleeves.

The white beaded headband and pale bouquet are lovely finishing touches. Try a similar headband with your own courthouse outfit if you want a little extra detail.

a green surfboard sign

How adorable is that little dog drawing? The dark green surfboard-shaped sign has white flower and leaf outlines, with the couple’s name in the middle.

An open guestbook sits on the table beside it. If you love this idea, try a personalized board next to your own guestbook rather than a plain welcome sign.

pink and orange blooms

Calling all color lovers, this bouquet is for you! I am obsessed with the big pink blooms beside those bright orange and red flowers.

The long green leaves reach out around the edges. Ask your florist for a similar spread-out shape if you prefer this to a tightly rounded bouquet.

a boat-side reflection

This is one of my favorite photo ideas on the list. The couple stands along the side of a boat, with their reflection showing in the window beside them.

I love the harbor boats in the background too. If a boat is part of your plans, ask your photographer to look for a reflection shot.

food trucks and string lights

Don’t want a traditional seated dinner setup? This picture gives you a different direction, with guests gathered around food trucks beneath glowing string lights.

The trees make such a pretty backdrop. Check your venue’s food-truck rules before planning a similar reception.

flowers around a fountain

I love this fountain with its trailing ivy and pale pink flowers. The little lion faces are such a lovely detail!

If your venue has a fountain, ask whether your florist can decorate around it. A few trailing stems could be a pretty addition without covering its shape.

a green aisle on the sand

This beach ceremony setup is so pretty. Greenery curves along both sides of the sandy aisle, leading to a lightly draped frame with white and dark red flowers.

Keep the white chairs if you want the same simple look. I especially love that the flowers sit at different heights on the frame.

cacti and candlelight

If you are looking for something a little different from an all-flower centerpiece, then this one is for you. Tall cacti rise above pale flowers and low succulents down the table.

The gold-colored flatware and glowing candles are gorgeous together. For your own version, have the arrangements positioned well away from guests’ hands.

dinner overlooking the ocean

Last but definitely not least, we have this beautiful ocean-view reception. I love the palm trees and strings of lights above the tables!

White table coverings, pale blue napkins and brown cross-back chairs keep the setup simple. Save this one if you want your view to be a big part of the evening.
