Handprint Craft Ideas to Try
turkeys with colorful tails
We’re starting off strong with these cute turkeys. Red, orange and yellow handprints fan out behind brown footprint bodies. Those googly eyes and orange beaks give them so much character.
If you want to follow this look, leave a white border around your cutouts so the overlapping colors stay easy to see.
a little Christmas tree
How cute is this little tree? A green handprint has a brown trunk, colorful round decorations and a big gold-colored star.
I love the red sparkling line winding across the whole print. Keep plenty of white space around yours if you want the same simple framed look.
pink butterfly wings
I am obsessed with this pink butterfly. The decorated handprint wings look so cute beside the green bumpy body and curled yellow antennae.

Try adding little stars and colorful dots to your wings. The flower shapes around this butterfly are a sweet extra touch.
a big yellow sunflower
If you are looking for a flower with lots of color, this one is for you. Yellow and orange handprints surround a dark brown center, with green handprint leaves below.
The oversized flower head is my favorite part. Let yours be much wider than the stem to keep that same cheerful shape.
red-nosed reindeer
These little reindeer are just too adorable. The brown fingers become antlers while bright red noses sit beneath pairs of googly eyes.
The red hanging loops make these a lovely ornament idea. You could write a name and year on the back of your own version.
ghosts with waving hands
Who says ghosts have to be scary? These white ghosts have big black smiles and handprint arms reaching out from blue and purple backgrounds.
I love how the hands extend beyond the edges. Keep that detail if you want your ghosts to look like they’re waving hello.
a rainbow with clouds
This rainbow may just be one of my favorites here. Pink, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple handprints curve between white cloud shapes.

Overlap the edges of your cutouts to try the same rainbow arc. There’s no need to add a background when the colors look this pretty on their own.
a smiling purple jellyfish
How sweet is this jellyfish? The upside-down purple print has closed smiling eyes, pink cheeks and long wavy lines between the fingers.
I especially love the tiny blue bubbles around it.

a heart in the palm
Don’t want to add lots of decorations? No problem! This red handprint has a plain heart shape right in the middle of the palm.
The pale background and pink surround keep everything sweet and simple. You could use this design on the front of a Valentine’s card.
colorful autumn trees
Bring a little fall color to your picture with these handprint trees. I love the mix of green, yellow and orange-red prints with dark branches drawn through them.
Try adding scattered dots beneath your own trees to echo the fallen leaves shown here.
snowman greeting cards
I am obsessed with these snowman cards. The white fingers have tiny orange noses, black buttons and little branch-like arms. Each face is a bit different!
Keep the brown background if you want to follow this idea. The white snow dots look so pretty against it.
a rainbow peacock
If you are looking for a big display idea, then this one is for you. There’s so much color in the peacock’s tail, from blue near the body to red along the outside.
I love all those overlapping hand-shaped cutouts. You could make this a shared project, with everyone contributing prints to the colorful rows.
a pink and purple bouquet
This is such a pretty way to turn handprints into flowers. Two pink blooms and one purple bloom sit on green stems, with a large pink bow beneath.
The words “Love you bunches!” finish the picture. Try this arrangement for a handmade card if you like flowers without lots of extra decoration.
Santa and snowman ornaments
How cute is this holiday pair? The hand-shaped impression becomes Santa’s white beard while the footprint beside it becomes a snowman with a red scarf.
I love the pale blue borders and matching red hanging ribbons. Keep those colors together if you’re planning your own ornament designs.
bunnies with bow ties
These bunnies have the sweetest oversized ears. White handprints sit inside pink and orange ear shapes, with footprints making the big feet below.
The matching bow ties are my favorite part. Pick one bright color for your bunny’s ears, feet and bow to try the same look.
two little white chickens
Looks like these chickens have found a snack! Two white handprints face each other, with yellow beaks and feet, red combs and scattered kernels between them.
For a version without loose little pieces, you could draw the eyes and paint yellow dots for the feed instead.
a lion with an orange mane
This lion has such a cute face. The yellow handprint makes the body and legs, with an oversized orange mane around the head.

I love the little black claw marks at the ends of the fingers. Add a smiling face to your own lion to keep this friendly look.
a smiling handprint sun
Go big on yellow with this cheerful sun. Layers of yellow and orange handprints spread around a round face, with fingers pointing outward like rays.
This is another lovely idea for a group display. Let the prints overlap at different angles rather than trying to make every ray match.
red and blue fireworks
Looking for a Fourth of July idea? This print pairs a blue palm with red fingers, surrounded by curved bursts, little stars and dots.
The “our little firework” wording is so cute. Try keeping the same red and blue colors in your lettering to bring the picture together.
a sparkling little angel
Last but definitely not least, we have this sweet angel. I love the pale sparkling border around the hand-shaped body and the white fan-shaped wings behind it.
The closed eyes, red hair and tiny holly decoration give the face so much charm. A light blue background is a pretty choice if you want to follow this design.
