Looking for mitten crafts with a little something extra? Think colorful pom-poms, tiny snowflakes and red-and-white ornaments.
These ideas range from plain outlines you can decorate to detailed hanging decorations, with a winter cup sleeve included alongside the mittens.
You can keep things simple or go all out with sparkle. I especially love the matching mitten pairs.
Pick your favorite colors, then take a closer look at the little details you’d like to try.
Mitten craft ideas worth saving
a simple mitten outline
We’re starting off with a blank mitten outline that leaves plenty of room for your own ideas. The rounded cuff and wide center keep the shape nice and simple.
Try adding big stripes or little snowflakes inside the outline. You could also leave the cuff white and fill the rest with your favorite color.
red and white snowflakes
How pretty are these matching ornaments? I love the large red snowflakes on the white mittens.
The cuffs reverse the colors with tiny white snowflakes against red.
Keep the contrasting edge stitches and white hanging loops if you want to follow this look.
bright pom-pom mittens
I am obsessed with these colorful mitten cutouts. The pink and blue shapes are cute on their own, but those little pom-poms make them even better.
Try rows of purple, turquoise and pink like the blue pair. Or stick to different shades of pink for a matching set.
animals and snowflakes
If you want a mitten with lots of little things to look at, this one is for you. There’s a large bear near the bottom, smaller animals around it and white snowflakes filling the gaps.
I love the wide white border around the patchy, see-through center. For your own version, leave some space between the animal pictures so that background still shows.
purple and blue weaving
This woven mitten may just be one of my favorites here. The pink, purple and blue rows look so pretty together.
The photo shows a mitten-shaped loom with the weaving still in progress, plus a finished shape above it. Save this as color inspiration if you’re planning a weaving project.
a mitten picture pocket
How cute is this little pocket? The curved front holds animal picture cards while the tall mitten shape has a drawn stitch pattern across its cuff.
Try adding a name label to your own version. I’d leave the area behind the cards plain so the little drawings are easy to see.
a long-cuffed mitten pattern
Here’s a look at a project before it becomes a finished mitten. A white outline sits over a golden-yellow piece with its ribbed edge lined up beneath the long cuff.
If you’re planning a similar project, use this as a placement reference alongside a proper mitten pattern.
pastel hats and mittens
I am obsessed with this pastel garland. The lavender mittens with dark zigzags and the pink mitten with dark wavy lines are adorable, especially with those pom-poms on the cuffs.
Mix hat shapes into your own garland like this one. You can give each cutout a different pattern while keeping the same small group of colors.
white ornaments with red details
Don’t want to go overboard with color? No problem!
These white mitten ornaments have little patterned impressions across the fronts and bright red details at the cuffs.
The dangling red pom-poms are my favorite part. I’d keep those if you’re borrowing this design for your tree.
sparkling blue mitten card
If you love a little sparkle, then this card is for you. The blue mittens have white snowflakes, glittery pale cuffs and a silver-colored bow above them.
There’s plenty of decoration around the pair too, from shiny leaves to flowers with pearl-like centers. For a simpler variation, you could keep just the mittens and bow.
pink green and purple cutouts
Don’t want to add pom-poms or glitter? These colored mitten cutouts give you another direction to try.
I love the pink, green and purple shapes with their dark outlines.
Let your coloring stay a little uneven if you like the same look. There’s no need to fill every shape with a perfectly solid shade.
snowflake mittens with big bows
This hanging decoration has so many pretty details. I love the pale snowflakes against the dark mittens, plus those oversized bows at the top.
The greenery, little bells and fluffy white cuffs make this an all-out winter look. Try hanging your pair at slightly different heights like the ones here.
colorful patchwork pairs
How cute is this colorful pair? Overlapping red, blue, green and purple patches cover both mittens, with a blue cord joining the cuffs.
Try mixing smaller and larger patches rather than lining everything up. That’s what I especially like about this design.
cream mittens with greenery
If you like keeping your winter decorations simple, take a look at this pair. Cream mittens hold green sprigs and round white accents, with a small brown bow around each cuff.

I love how one mitten hangs lower than the other. Keep that uneven arrangement if you want to try a similar wall decoration.
a white sleeve with a blue button
The white ridges and large blue button on this cup sleeve are so cute together. I especially love the little yellow fastening.
If you’d rather stay with mitten shapes, you could borrow the blue-and-yellow button detail for a decorative mitten cuff.
red stripes and little bells
These striped mitten ornaments are just too cute. I love the narrow red lines against white, especially with the fluffy cuffs and gold-colored bells.
Small green sprigs sit at the tops beside the hanging loops. Keep those little touches if you want the same festive combination.
matching hats and dangling mittens
Why stop at mittens when you can add a matching hat? These bright sets have striped hats, textured bands and little mitten pairs hanging underneath.
The pink-and-blue combination is a favorite, but the green-and-blue version is lovely too. Try a dark background with scattered white snowflakes to follow the display here.
teal mittens with a snowflake
If you are looking for a design with fewer details, this one is for you. Two teal mitten shapes overlap, with a pale ridged cuff and a white snowflake on the front.
I’d keep the decoration right in the middle like this. The plain teal around it leaves plenty of room for that one snowflake.
colorful stitched patterns
The pattern fans are going to love this! Red, teal and lime lines decorate white mitten, hat and stocking shapes with crosses, zigzags and little snowflakes.
My favorite detail is the crisscross design on the stocking at the left. Try choosing one pattern for the center and a row of short lines for the cuff.
blue lacing around a white mitten
Last but definitely not least, we have this large white mitten with blue lacing around the edge. The dark blue stands out so clearly against the plain center.
A drawn stitch pattern decorates the cuff, with animal pictures nearby. For your own supervised lacing activity, keep the center open like this or add a favorite animal drawing.
