Looking for surgery care package ideas that feel a little more personal? A puzzle book, a pretty mug or a handwritten note gives you a lovely place to start.
These pictures include get-well gifts plus other themed baskets you can adapt.
You can keep it simple or go all out with matching colors. Check your recipient’s preferences and recovery instructions first.
Foods, skincare, bath products and medical extras aren’t suitable for every procedure, so these are gift inspiration rather than a recovery checklist.
Thoughtful care packages to make your own
turquoise pamper box
We’re starting off with this colorful pamper box. I love the turquoise accessories next to the coral tube and little white towel tied with string.
The foot packs make this a foot-care gift rather than a surgery-specific kit. I’d borrow the colors for your own version and stick to requested products that fit their care instructions.
a little box of sunshine
How sweet is this yellow box? The outlined flowers and handwritten sunshine message are my favorite parts.
Even the tea and skincare packaging follow the color theme.

Try adding your own note inside the lid. A simple “thinking of you” with a few little flower drawings would be lovely.
flowers and a little bunny
Can’t decide on one theme? This collage gives you four different directions, from yellow packaging to a basket with a flower-building set.
I especially love the bunny holding a red heart in the bottom-right basket. Pick one personal extra like that, then build the rest around what your recipient actually enjoys.
green eye mask and hearts
This green-and-cream combination is so pretty. There’s a sleep mask at the back, a spiral notebook and a mug with hands forming a heart.
The little heart details at the front are adorable too.
The lozenges, ginger chews and electrolyte packets need a separate check with their care team. They aren’t automatic post-surgery essentials.
daisies and a tiny sunflower
I am obsessed with this little sunflower! The daisy-covered notebook and matching cup are so cute together.
A yellow “sending hugs” card brings the same color to the back of the box. You could write a personal message on the reverse rather than adding another gift.
a big purple bow
If you like a fuller basket, this one has plenty of inspiration. Magazines stand at the back with soup cans while a tissue box sits right in the middle.
The oversized purple bow is such a pretty finishing touch.
For your own version, start with reading material and tissues. Choose any food or personal-care extras around the recipient’s requests rather than copying this general get-well mix.
a toiletries basket to adapt
This picture is actually a birthday hangover kit, so its card and medicine selection don’t fit a surgery gift as shown. The handled basket and small toiletry packages are the parts worth borrowing.
Swap the card for your own message and skip surprise medications. Over-the-counter medicines can overlap with prescriptions or conflict with recovery instructions.
blue packaging all around
The blue theme is so fun here! Cookies, candy, chips and gum are laid out with skincare packets in different shades of blue.
You don’t need to copy the snack selection to try this idea. A blue notebook and matching pen would be cute nonfood additions to your own box.
a navy basket for dad
The hammer-shaped sign makes this a dad-themed gift rather than a dedicated recovery basket. I love the navy container with the white shredded filler.
Keep the dad message if it fits your recipient. For the contents, you could choose familiar toiletries they’ve requested instead of copying every grooming item shown.
sunshine inside the box
How cute are these decorated flaps? Cloud-patterned backgrounds, colorful letters and little blue butterflies surround a big yellow sun.
The box is still empty, but there’s already so much to love. Try a similar message around the flaps before filling yours with a few personal gifts.
pink tumbler bouquet
If you are looking for something a little different from a basket, this one is for you. A bright pink handled tumbler holds a tall arrangement of beauty products with white flowers tucked between them.
I’d keep the pink-and-white theme but simplify the arrangement to a couple of requested items. Check whether straw use is allowed after their procedure before choosing a straw cup.
sudoku and a striped balloon
Love a little activity-book moment? A sudoku book sits behind colorful markers with a striped “get well soon” balloon above the basket. The balloon is such a cute extra touch.
There’s also a boxed heating pad in front. Include that only if their surgical team approves its use. The puzzles give you a thoughtful starting point without it.
red basket and crosswords
This red container really leans into the theme with its “first aid kit” label. Popcorn, large-print crosswords and a patterned puzzle cube make it more of an entertainment gift than an actual medical kit.
I’d borrow the crossword idea and red packaging. Skip the pill-themed extras and the bottle with the novelty label rather than guessing what’s inside.
sage bows and a floral mug
I love this sage-green bow against the pale folded blanket. The flower-patterned mug, tea and little honey jar make a pretty arrangement on the tray.
You don’t need every extra to follow this look. A mug, a favorite drink that fits their diet and one generous bow would make a lovely smaller version.
you’re one tough cookie
How adorable is the Cookie Monster detail? The gray flaps spell out “you’re one tough cookie” with cookie shapes worked into the lettering.
This box is filled with packaged cookies. If treats don’t fit their current diet, you can still borrow the playful decoration and fill yours with nonfood gifts instead.
books and little gift cards
Don’t want to guess every little thing they might like? Take inspiration from the gift cards in this collage.
There’s also a novel, a bunny, a pale folded blanket and a smiling croissant toy.
Choose a bookshop card and one personal extra rather than trying to fit the entire collage into a basket. That little croissant may just be my favorite.
coloring pencils and yellow suns
This is one of my favorite activity-focused baskets here. The coloring book and pencils stand at the back with little yellow sun cutouts scattered across the gifts.
Yellow tissue and a narrow ribbon finish the basket. Don’t forget a personal note like the bandage-themed card shown here.
olive ribbon and a dark mug
Don’t want to go overboard with bright colors? No problem!
This box pairs a pale fringed blanket with an olive-green ribbon and a dark handled mug.
I especially love the spoon tucked beneath the bow. Borrow that wrapping detail for your own box without needing to copy all the bath-themed extras beside it.
an organizer to reconsider
This photo shows assorted pills in compartments with handwritten pink medicine labels. It isn’t a care package I’d copy.
Those labels don’t include the full ingredients, dosing instructions or warnings.
If an organizer would be useful, offer an empty one and let the recipient work with their pharmacist or care team on filling it. Don’t repackage an assortment of medicines as a surprise gift.
brown bow and a golden heart
Last but definitely not least, we have this pretty neutral gift box. I love the oversized brown bow and the gold-colored heart tucked into the ribbed mug.
Tea, honey and chocolate sit in front of the folded blanket.
Leave the bath salts and scrub soap out of your version unless their surgical team has cleared bathing and those products. A handwritten note would make a lovely swap.
