Looking for thinking of you gifts for him that feel a little more personal? A letter, a mug filled with treats or a photo paired with a favorite song gives you plenty to work with.
These ideas include romantic keepsakes plus smaller gifts you can adapt for a friend.
You can keep it simple or put together a whole box. Start with something he actually likes, then add a few words of your own. You don’t need to wait for a birthday!
Thoughtful gift ideas worth saving
a compass with a poem
We’re starting off with this lovely compass and its poem-lined lid. I love the decorative border around the Robert Frost inscription.
It gives you something to read as well as something to display.
For someone starting a new chapter, you could add a note about the adventures still ahead of him.
an old-fashioned love letter
How pretty is this letter? The aged-looking page, dark seal and string bow make even the envelope feel special.
Try this style with a message in your own words. It doesn’t have to sound like poetry.
A few honest sentences about why he’s on your mind are plenty.
a notebook for his ideas
If you are looking for something simple, this one is for you. This brown notebook has lined pages with little spaces for dates at the top.
You could write a short message on the first page and leave the rest for his plans, lists or doodles.
a mug full of little extras
I love this little mug gift. The clear sides show off the honey bear, tea packets, lip balm and wrapped treats tucked inside.
Try putting together your own version for someone who could use a small pick-me-up. Choose tea he already enjoys rather than guessing at a new flavor.

open-when love notes
This may just be one of my favorite ideas here. The big envelope has red hearts around a reminder of why you love him, with folded notes spread out in front.
Write a different reason on each little note. You could make separate envelopes for days when he feels lonely or needs encouragement.
tiny map stars
How cute are these little stars? The map patterns put tiny roads, place names and patches of color across the folds.
For your own gift, you could choose maps of places that matter to you both and collect the finished stars in a small box. Add a note explaining the places you picked.

a little wallet message
Don’t want to give him something large? This black message card is a sweet place to start.
The white lettering keeps the loving note easy to see beside the brown wallet.

Choose wording that sounds like you and finish it with your name. I’d keep the simple layout just like this.
coffee and everyday extras
The coffee fans are going to have plenty to look at here! This box pairs a black tumbler and notebook with coffee, coffee-patterned socks and grooming tools.
I especially love those little cup designs on the socks. If you’re building your own box, you can start with the coffee and tumbler rather than including every item.
a bell with a heart tag
The pale blue bow and heart-shaped tag are so cute together. The tag says to ring the bell and wish them well, so this looks more like a celebration favor than a personal message.
Borrow the packaging idea for your gift, but change the tag to a little wish just for him.
a beard-care set
If he enjoys looking after his beard, this set gives you a different direction from love notes and keepsakes. There’s a brush, comb, scissors and labeled beard-care products arranged around the black boxes.

For your own version, stick to products he already uses or has mentioned wanting to try.
a red-and-pink collage
I am obsessed with the little penguins in this collage. There’s so much to choose from, including hearts, kiss prints, flowers and car characters.
Use this as inspiration for a card or scrapbook page rather than a finished gift on its own. Pick a few images that connect to his interests and add your own message.
a jerky bouquet
Who says a bouquet has to be flowers? This one swaps blooms for jerky packets and snack sticks, with pink bows and heart-patterned wrapping around the bottom.
The heart-shaped arrangements at the sides are my favorite detail. Choose his favorite snacks if you want to try a similar gift.
a mini bottle with a note
This little bourbon bottle has a wedding-themed tag, but the tied-on note is an idea you can borrow for a just-because gift.
If he’s of legal drinking age and enjoys bourbon, choose a miniature he’d like and swap in your own message. Keep the simple bow for that same finishing touch.
a memory jar
Want something you can keep adding to? This memory jar has a pink instruction label, a pale bow and a silver-colored lid.
Instead of following the year-long prompt shown here, you could start his jar with notes about moments you’ve shared. Leave a few blank slips for memories still to come.
a blue mug gift box
This blue-and-green mug is so pretty beside the cream-colored bundle. The box also includes tea, cocoa, a candle and a black clasp purse, with a blue flower decoration across the top.
You don’t have to copy every piece. I’d keep the mug and drink packets, then choose the other extras around what he likes.
a stamped dog tag
Don’t want to go overboard with the details? This silver-colored dog tag keeps things simple with a ball chain and the stamped words “GOD’S FAVORITE.”
It’s a playful option if that phrase suits his faith and sense of humor. Let the short message do the talking.
a morning tea box
I love the black-and-white pattern on this mug. It sits beside a candle, tea packets and a small jar of honey, with a honey dipper tucked between them.
The towel’s kindness message is a lovely extra. Try a similar tea-and-honey combination if you want a gift that isn’t specifically romantic.
a photo and favorite song
This is such a cute way to pair a photo with a song. The black record-shaped display has a round picture in the middle, music-player graphics below and names across the stand.
Choose a photo you both love and a song that means something to you. Treat this as display inspiration, not a playable record.
a deck of love notes
Last but definitely not least, we have this adorable deck of reasons you love him. The brown handwritten labels look so cute against the blue-and-white card backs.
Mix little things you appreciate with qualities you admire. Finish your own stack with a bow like the cream one here.
