I went through hundreds of pins and photos to put this together. Some islands looked so pretty but were a nightmare to actually reach, so those got cut.
The ones that made it are doable, photogenic and worth the plane ticket. Think sunsets, blue water and a little bit of donkey chaos, lol!
This is less of a strict itinerary and more of a menu. Pick a few, skip the rest, mix islands however you want!
Some of these are quiet and slow. Others are loud and full of boats and tourists. Honestly both have their charm.
Under each idea I’ve added the little details that actually matter, plus where to look for more info. Let’s get into it!
GREEK ISLANDS BUCKET LIST
Sunset In Oia Village
We’re starting off strong with the sunset in Oia. Every travel photo of Greece you’ve ever seen probably started right here.
The crowds gather an hour early along the castle ruins, so claiming a spot is half the fun.
Bring a light jacket because the wind picks up fast once the sun drops. We learned that one the shivering way.
Blue Domes Of Santorini
How so pretty are those blue domes against the white walls? They’re basically the logo of the entire these!
Most of the famous domes sit in Oia near the churches, so it’s an easy stop right before sunset.
Early morning works too if you want the streets empty for photos.
Sailing Around Mykonos Coastline
Sailing around Mykonos is one of those things that sounds fancy but doesn’t have to be. Half day trips leave from the old port constantly.
The coastline changes from rocky cliffs to hidden little coves within minutes. Not that I’m picky about boats, but a smaller catamaran beats the big party ones every time, haha!
Pack a towel and a good playlist and you’re set.
Hiking Samaria Gorge Crete
Samaria Gorge is ten miles from the mountains down to the sea, no mercy included. Sturdy shoes are non-negotiable after watching that unfold. The swim in impossibly clear water at the end makes every blister worth it.
Windmills Of Mykonos Town
The windmills above Little Venice look like postcards come to life. They stopped grinding grain ages ago, but the evening light still hits them just right.
I always end up staying an extra hour just watching them turn orange with a drink in hand. Somehow it never gets old!
Mykonos knows exactly what it is doing, lol!
Swimming Navagio Shipwreck Beach
Navagio earns the hype, no argument from me! The shipwreck on white sand looks unreal even in person.
Boats are the only way in since there is no road access. I learned the hard way that showing up late means fighting for beach space.
Early birds win this one every time. Who wants to fight for a towel spot anyway?
Diving Blue Caves Zakynthos
The Blue Caves near Zakynthos feel like swimming inside a lightbulb. The water glows electric blue depending on the sun.
Small boat tours run from Porto Vromi most mornings. I set an alarm for this one without complaint. Some things are worth losing sleep over!
Worth every yawn the next day, haha!
Donkey Ride In Lindos
A donkey ride up to the Acropolis of Lindos sounds silly until you are halfway up sweating buckets. The donkeys have done this route for generations and seem completely unbothered.
I tipped mine extra just out of respect for the job. They deserve it, haha!
Nobody complains once they reach the top. How could you, with that view?
Cliffside Pools Of Santorini
Cliffside pools carved into the Santorini hillside look like infinity pools with a volcano view. Most belong to hotels, but plenty sell day passes to non-guests.
I always forget to book ahead and pay for it every single summer. These spots sell out fast in peak season.
Lesson learned, again! Same, honestly.
Renting An ATV Santorini
Renting an ATV is easily one of the best santorini travel tips I can give you. It’s cheaper than taxis and way more fun than the crowded buses!
The winding roads between villages are perfect for it. Just watch out for donkeys crossing unexpectedly, lol!
Helmets are usually included, but double check before you sign anything.
Photographing Fira Caldera Views
Photographing the Fira caldera is basically a rite of passage at this point. My camera roll is embarrassingly full of nearly identical golden hour shots.
The cable car down to the old port gives angles most tourists skip entirely. This one takes zero skill and still looks like a magazine spread. Who doesn’t love that?
Tasting Fresh Greek Souvlaki
Tasting fresh Greek souvlaki belongs on every single greece bucket list ideas roundup. For good reason! The grilled meat, warm pita and tzatziki combo never gets old.
Street stands beat sit-down restaurants nine times out of ten.
Not in my book will a fancy restaurant version ever compare!
Wine Tasting In Santorini
cider tasting in Santorini feels different thanks to the volcanic soil. The Assyrtiko grape grows in twisted little baskets close to the ground.
I always plan to taste and end up buying three bottles I cannot fit in my suitcase. Vineyard tours often include views that rival the cider itself.
Not a bad way to lose an afternoon, am I right?
Exploring Meteora Monasteries Cliffs
Exploring the Meteora monasteries feels like stepping into a fantasy film. Stone towers hold ancient buildings that seem to float above the clouds.
I packed a scarf for modest dress rules and still felt underdressed somehow. The hike between viewpoints takes about an hour total.
Bring the scarf anyway, trust me! How cute is this whole scene?
Swimming In Balos Lagoon
Last but definitely not least, we have swimming in Balos Lagoon. The pink tinted sand and shallow turquoise water make it look almost fake!
Getting there takes a bit of a hike or a boat ride, but nobody ever regrets it. Pack water and sunscreen because there’s barely any shade.
This is the kind of spot you’ll compare every beach to afterward. Not in my book will anything top it!
